Formation of the Ego via the process of identification through mirrors

      This Installation is a reflection of the perception of our own bodies through the outside world with a view to linking it our internal feelings.

      Based on the essays of Freud, later taken up by Lacan, the mirror stage describes the formation of the Ego through the process of identification: the Ego being the result of identifying with one’s own specular image, that is, the reflection of one’s own body in the mirror; with a reflected image that is oneself but at the same time someone else.

      In children, this contrast is experienced as aggressive tension between the specular image and the body itself, since the wholeness of the image appears to threaten the body with disintegration and fragmentation. In order to resolve this tension and the anxiety generated by this feeling of fragmentation, the subject identifies with the image: this primary identification with the counterpart is what forms the Ego.

      The discovery of the specular image linked to our own identity begins in childhood and lasts throughout life, for the reconstruction of the individual’s identity. Similarly, there is a rediscovery by pubescent girls, which leads to rupture, since the body we thought we had dominated is thrown into crisis and the limits of the body are brought into play.

      These changes will force us once again to rediscover the body through mirrors, and the image they now reflect must go through another process of assimilation of the image with oneself.

                Formación del Yo como un proceso de identificación a través del espejo

   Esta Instalación  es una reflexión de la percepción de nuestro cuerpo a través del mundo exterior y con el objetivo de relacionarlo con las sensaciones internas.

   Partiendo de los ensayos de Freud y que mas tarde retomará Lacan, El estadio del espejo describe la formación del Yo a través del proceso de identificación: el Yo es el resultado de identificarse con la propia imagen especular, es decir, el reflejo del propio cuerpo en el espejo, a la imagen de uno mismo que es simultáneamente uno mismo y otro.

   En la niñez, este contraste es experimentado como una tensión agresiva entre la imagen especular y el cuerpo real. Ya que la completad de la imagen parece amenazar al cuerpo con la desintegración y la fragmentación. La angustia provocada por esta sensación de fragmentación y como para resolver esta tensión, el sujeto se identifica con la imagen: esta identificación primaria con lo semejante es lo que da forma al Yo.

   El descubrimiento de la imagen especular vinculada a nuestra propia identidad comienza en la niñez y  se prolongará a lo largo de la vida, para la reconstrucción de la identidad del individuo. De la misma manera hay un redescubrir de las niñas púber , el cual se produce una ruptura, porque el cuerpo que ya creíamos dominado, entra en crisis  poniendo en juego  los límites del cuerpo.

   Esos cambios nos empujarán nuevamente al redescubrimiento del cuerpo a través del espejo y esa imagen especular que ahora nos devuelve el objeto tendrá que volver, a un proceso de asumir otra vez el ello con el yo.
